How we choose and check our guides

The market and Christmas visit

Around 200 stalls occupy courtyards, marquees and chalets. Friday and Saturday continue after dark; food includes raclette, crêpes and hot drinks. The fair is separate from a general house-tour visit.

Separate market shopping from any house or trail booking. Use the official programme for individual opening days and the visitor information for the part of the estate your ticket covers.

How accommodation links work

A perfect day

  1. At your arrival window

    Begin in the courtyards

Use your pre-booked arrival slot, then explore the chalets and marquees at your own pace.

  2. Mid-visit

    Follow the food stalls

Choose from the published food offer, including raclette or crêpes, and ask vendors about ingredients.

  3. A quieter moment

    Browse with a shortlist

Keep space in the afternoon for gifts that deserve a second look rather than trying every stall at once.

  4. Friday or Saturday evening

    Stay for the later finish

These days run until 7.30pm. Check the weather-dependent evening programme before deciding how late to stay.

Make it a weekend: Burghley House and Stamford

Plan prepared 24 October 2026; choose a published event date.

Day 1: the Christmas visit

Make Burghley Christmas Fair the main outing. Choose the market, house or trail session from the venue’s dated programme, leaving time for arrival and a pause before an evening booking. Use the existing tickets and travel sections for the entrance and transport arrangements. Separate activities may need separate reservations.

Day 2: Stamford

Leave the following morning for Stamford before the journey home. Choose the town stop around your return route and the time available rather than adding another timed event by default. Confirm the opening hours of any place you want to enter; this plan does not add a new admission or transport-time claim.
