Copenhagen market accessibility
Plan a comfortable route through your festive visit.
Plan Tivoli and the city markets as separate visits, with access information for each. A statement about Tivoli’s facilities does not describe Højbro Plads or Nyhavn. Start with the garden’s current map, choose an entrance and identify a warm break. Then plan the station-to-entrance route separately. If your wheelchair, scooter or walking aid needs a particular surface or clear width, explain that to Tivoli before travelling.
The hotel walking estimates on this site describe approximate pedestrian routes. They are not step-free audits, and a convenient location does not establish that a bedroom, bathroom or entrance meets your needs. Ask the hotel about your specific requirements and request dimensions or photographs if those would help you decide.
Tivoli’s official special-needs information confirms adapted toilets and a companion scheme. A disabled visitor pays for their own entrance and ride ticket under the normal terms; a companion may receive admission or a ride pass under the scheme’s documentation rules. Overseas visitors without a Danish Companion Card are asked to bring medical documentation clearly confirming the disability. Check the current requirements directly before booking.
The same official page describes a Show Consideration card for guests whose disability makes waiting in ride queues difficult. Ask the Service Centre whether your documentation and intended visit meet the current conditions. It does not mean every attraction is suitable: ride access and evacuation requirements vary, and Tivoli staff cannot lift a guest. Use the individual attraction information linked by Tivoli and ask about the particular experience you want.
Find the adapted toilets on the current garden map and ask staff about the nearest suitable facility when you arrive. If you require an adult changing facility or specific hoist equipment, ask that exact question in advance rather than assuming an adapted toilet includes it. Necessary service and guide dogs are allowed under Tivoli’s published conditions; check identification and vest requirements.
A weekday daytime arrival may make it easier to choose your pace, but this is an editorial suggestion rather than a guaranteed quiet period. Christmas lights, music, ride noise and food smells are part of the setting. Plan a short first circuit, an indoor rest and an easy exit if the experience becomes tiring. Højbro Plads and Nyhavn need their own decisions about surfaces, toilet access and shelter.
København H Metro station has lifts and a pedestrian tunnel connecting with the main station; Kongens Nytorv also has lifts for the harbour side of the city. Check the Metro’s live lift information and your complete journey in Rejseplanen, including the final street section. Choose a workable return route before setting off, and leave time for any assistance or interchange.
For Tivoli access questions and companion ticket arrangements, use its Service Centre or Call Center,+4533151001. For airport assistance, contact your airline when booking; Copenhagen Airport says assistance involving an electric wheelchair or service dog must be booked at least 48 hours before departure. Keep written confirmations with your travel details and recheck any temporary arrangements shortly before leaving.
Plan the whole journey
Ask about the route from your arrival point, surfaces, gradients, accessible toilets and any attraction you intend to book. Confirm room and bathroom requirements directly with your hotel before paying. Allow time for crowds and a warm break.
