Cheltenham’s Christmas Market brings the festive shopping to the Promenade, with wooden chalets set among the town-centre streets. This is an outing to take at browsing pace: walk the stalls once before deciding what to buy, keep room in a bag for the gifts that catch your eye, and leave time for a warm break. The main market runs from 10 to 23 December 2026, so choose your date around that fortnight rather than assuming the November Christmas programme includes these same stalls.
The Promenade is the focus of this guide. Cheltenham also has separately dated Christmas markets, including the Suffolks and Pittville Pump Room events in November. Those can make another enjoyable outing, but their dates and exhibitors should not be confused with the main December market. Visit Cheltenham’s Christmas-market directory is the useful starting point if you are planning a wider festive weekend. Check each venue’s listing before adding it to your itinerary.
For the main market, begin with the gifts and crafts, then decide whether to pause for something from the catering stalls or head into town for a sit-down meal. The published event description includes festive food and drink; individual menus and the final named stall selection should be checked with the organiser. There is no need to turn a shopping visit into a race to every chalet. Pick one or two priorities, make a second circuit for your favourites and allow a comfortable margin for the trip back to Cheltenham Spa. Our suggested day plan leaves that flexibility, especially if December weather makes an indoor break welcome.

Use Cheltenham Spa for rail arrivals and check the onward town-centre connection before setting off. The Promenade is the market destination, rather than the railway station itself. Consult National Rail for assistance, dated services and engineering work. If driving, use the council’s current car-park information and check restrictions before paying; December events can make central spaces busy. Choose a return service before shopping and leave a margin for queues and the journey back to the station.
Use Arle Court Transport Hub and service 100 to the Promenade, or choose Rodney Road, Regent Arcade or Chelt Walk in the centre.
This is our flexible suggestion: begin in daylight, stop for a warm meal or drink, then return for your favourite stalls. Keep the published closing time and your journey home in view.
Make room for Cheltenham around the stalls. Arrive before your main shopping visit, agree any luggage storage with your accommodation, and keep a warm indoor break in reserve. Check individual attractions’ opening times and admission separately before adding them to your day.
The main market is on the Promenade. Visit Cheltenham’s official accessible-travel guide says the station is a mile from the centre, with buses and taxis for the onward journey. It links wheelchair-accessible taxis and explains that low-floor Stagecoach buses have limited wheelchair and approved-scooter spaces. Check your operator and station assistance before travelling.
The town guide links council disabled parking and toilets, with most public toilets using the RADAR scheme. It lists Changing Places facilities including John Lewis on the High Street and Montpellier Gardens. Check opening hours, equipment and the exact route to your chosen facility before relying on it.
Ask the organiser for the market’s current layout, dropped-kerb route and any temporary cable covers or barriers. No market-specific quiet session is promised here. A weekday near opening is our suggestion for easier browsing, not a guaranteed low-sensory session. Contact the organiser about specific requirements and plan a warm indoor break.

Check the organiser’s current pet-dog rules before travelling. Assistance-dog arrangements are separate; use the accessibility guide for the published information.
